Fancy seeing you here: Murray and Nadal come face to face at Wimbledon
By Mike Dickson Tennis Correspondent Last updated at 11:18 PM on 17th June 2009

Comments (2)
Add to My Stories

Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray could not have got a more accurate gauge about thestate of each other’s games yesterday, after deciding to have a brief practice together.
Shortly after the seedings for Wimbledon emerged, confirming them as top and third seed respectively, the pair had a 30-minute hit together on an outside court, with Roger Federer warming up across the way.
And Murray revealed: ‘I’ve thought about serving for the title — but the closer you get to a Grand Slam the less you think about it. In the gym is the time I think about those things — to find a reason for putting in the hard work — and when you’re going through it on the running track.

A taste of things to come? First seed Nadal can only meet third seed Murray in the Wimbledon final

‘Sometimes you feel sorry for yourself, you are finding reasons for doing the training. When I get tired and out of breath I think, “I’m doing this so I can last long enough in the fifth set of a Grand Slam” — focusing on the last point and hoping your opponent misses.’
There seemed little indication of much being the matter with Nadal and his troublesome knees — later in the day he played a round of golf with his uncle and coach Toni.

Revenge mission: Federer will be keen to avenge last year's epic final defeat to Nadal - but he may have to get past Murray first

The defending champion will further test out his knee this afternoon when he plays an exhibition match against Lleyton Hewitt as part of the BNP Paribas Fortis Classic atFulham’s Hurlingham Club.

Don't speak: The talking seemed to have been done on court as the duo changed ends without exchanging a word

Neither Nadal nor Murray were affected by any changes in the seedings for Wimbledon which, unlike any other tournament, does not automatically seed from the world rankings and takes into account grasscourt achievements.
The biggest beneficiary was past champion Maria Sharapova, who will be in the draw at number 24 despite her ranking having slipped to 59, largely because of injuries.
In the men’s singles, the most significant change was for last year’s semi-finalist Marat Safin, who was promoted into the top 16 from his current world ranking of 23.
Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s absence through injury last year means he was left at No 9 and nobody will be keen to have him as a potential fourth-round opponent in tomorrow’s draw.
