After a slightly earlier exit than we would have wished for in Toronto last week, Rafa is putting that behind him and focussing on his last warm up event before the US Open. The Western and Southern Financial Group Masters begins in earnest on Monday in Cincinnati and the draw was made on Friday night. Seeded two, Rafa is once again at the bottom of the draw, with Roger Federer and the very top. In the first round Rafa faces Sam Querrey, a young American who has been showing a lot of promise lately. Taking a look at the rest of Rafa's quarter, Andre Agassi is lurking as a possible third round opponent and James Blake is seeded to meet Rafa in the quarter finals. No match is easy in a Masters Series tournament and the Cincy draw is jam packed with quality. The top quarter of the draw sees the likes of Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Tim Henman, Andy Roddick and Nikolay Davydenko all pitched in together. Now aren't we glad Rafa avoided a draw like that?? After his loss to Berdych in the third round of the Rogers Cup last week, Rafa realises how important it is to get some matches under his belt before the last Grand Slam of the year: "I think about Cincinnati now. I know the most important tournament is the U.S. but I know for play good the U.S. I need find the good rhythm, the good confidence. I need to play a little bit better in Cincinnati, no?" Rafa said he'll be practising hard in Cincy on Saturday, Sunday and Monday and hopes to get a Tuesday start. Stay tuned as bring you all the latest! Go Rafa! Written by Kate Flory |
